Andy Wirth is the CEO of the Squaw Valley Ski Holdings and an appointed Chairman of the Reno- Tahoe regional air service. Squaw Valley Holdings subsidiaries are the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski resorts located in Olympic Valley, California. He has interests in making the Lake Tahoe area one of the top tourists’ destinations worldwide. Additionally, he is an environment enthusiast, and this has led to his significant contributions to improving the look of the Tahoe area. Andy is a cyclist, runner, triathlete, and a skydiver.
Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows were two separate resorts with different cultures. In 2011, the KSL Capital Partners, owners of the Squaw Valley purchased the Alpine Meadows combining the two ski resorts. They intend to build a gondola, which will operate in three parts from the bottom of one ski resort to the other. The Squaw Valley also seek to expand their operational base to create which will also be part of setting up a dream place for the skiers in North Tahoe and other visitors.
Andy Wirth was involved in an accident in October 2013 that nearly took off his right arm. He was skydiving together with his friends when he accidentally hit a pole holding up the vines and injured his arm. While he still recuperating, Andy met a Navy Seal Team that was training at Squaw Valley and made friends with them, and they later formed a group together. He formed a relay team that took part in IRONMAN 70.3 race comprising of one Navy Seal, a swimmer, his friend from college, who was the cyclist, and Wirth, as the runner. After the race, the trio formed Special Warfare Warrior Support Team. The group raises funds for the Navy Seal Foundation responsible for the comrades that lose their lives or limbs in the battlefield.
Reno- Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority appointed Andy Wirth as the chair of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board in July 2015. He is in charge of nine board members who aid in improving the services of the airport. The airport hopes to learn a lot from Andy’s knowledge in managing resorts and his experience in working with various airlines.
