Grupo Televisa was founded in 1955 as Telesistem Mexicano to link Mexico’s first three televisions stations mainly: the XEW TV, XHTV, and XHGC Television. It was originally located at Avenida but moved its headquarters to its current location in Televicentro. The TV Station is owned by three families, which are Azcárraga Family, Ernesto Barrientos Reyes, and O’Farril family.
Market niche in Latin America
Televisa Grupo is the second largest media conglomerate in Latin America. It has interests in international distribution, direct home connection through satellites, television programming, and publishing. It also has an interest in sports, radio production, business promotions, and paging services. Televisa Grupo’s telenovelas are broadcast internationally but are only recorded in one season of the year. Many companies have over the years shown interest to work with the giant media conglomerate.
About Alfonso de Angoitia
Alfonso was born on the 17th of January 1962. He is currently the Director and the Executive Vice President of the Grupo Televisa, perhaps the largest media company in the Spanish speaking hemisphere. In 2009, Alfonso Angoitia was named the chairman of Televisa Grupo’s Finance Committee. He has been on the Board of the Televisa Grupo since 1997 and doubles up as an independent member of the Board of Directors of the Grupo Modelo SAB de CV. His other board memberships include working with the Empresas Cablevision, Pepsi Bottling Group, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, and the Sky.
His career journey
Alfonso Angoitia was the Chief Financial Officer of the Televisa Grupo between 1999 and 2003. He had worked at the White & Case LLP in New York before joining Grupo Televisa. Alfonso immediately joined other people to found the Mijares, one of the leading law firms in Mexico. Alfonso Angoitia was the personal attorney of Emilio Azcarraga, the current CEO of Grupo Televisa. He worked with him to legally and financially restructure the company to the extent that it was able to regain operating capabilities.
Mr. Alfonso Angoitia is the chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Kardias AC. He is also a member of the Foundation Mexicana La Salud AC. Alfonso’s philanthropic initiatives have been at the peak, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American School Foundation.
